Notice of Timber Harvesting

The Board of Selectmen has enlisted the Conservation Commission to manage two timber cuts on property prior to their anticipated sale at an auction of Town owned property in 2017. These properties are on Rand Road; Map 92, Lot 5 and Lord Hill Road; Map 92, Lot 6. These properties were previously harvested approx. twenty years ago with an anticipated future selected harvest. These cuts will be done with a minimum number of equipment and personnel with a particular attention to preserve the buffers along the property lines. The anticipated start time is late 2016 to early 2017 depending on the weather and frozen ground.
These cuts will allow the Town to collect the rewards of its long term ownership and patient management of this natural resource while enhancing the property prior to selling. Revenue from the timber sale will go to the Town General Fund.

COPS Hiring Grant Update

As most of you are aware, the Rindge Police Department applied for and was awarded a Department of Justice, 2016 COPS Hiring Grant. This grant will provide $125,000 over a three year period to offset the salary and benefits of an eighth Police Officer. Because of the nature of New Hampshire State Law, it was determined that the grant could only be accepted upon a successful Town vote. This required us to apply for an extension of the “90-day Grant Acceptance Period” to a date beyond the March 2017 Town Meeting. We are pleased to announce that our extension application has been granted. Our citizens can now vote on whether or not to accept the funds in March. Thank you all for your support and patience while we determined the proper method to accept these funds.

Respectfully,
Chief Todd Muilenberg
